Trail Measuring, Mapping & Objective Information, New Jersey State Parks

In partnership with Maddy Grubb Maps, Dovetail Trail Consulting is actively working with New Jersey State Parks to measure and document trails using the standardized objective information required by the Outdoor Developed Areas guidelines — including distance, surface type, tread width, running slope, and cross slope. In addition to collecting trail data, we produce accessible trail maps and trail narratives that give visitors the information they need to plan their experience before they arrive.

On the Trail: Dovetail Advances Inclusive Trail Design: Lander, WY

As part of a collaborative effort to improve trail accessibility, Dovetail Trail Consulting led a clinic at Johnny Behind the Rocks in Wyoming, demonstrating how thoughtful trail design directly impacts people with disabilities. Dovetail’s team showcased real-world challenges—such as narrow pinch points and gate designs that are difficult for people with mobility disabilities—while offering practical solutions to increase inclusivity.

Hosted in partnership with Wyoming Pathways and the BLM, this hands-on event emphasized the power of lived experience in shaping more accessible public lands.

Testimonial:

“Working with Dovetail has opened my eyes to the world of adaptive hiking devices.  It has been invaluable to learn how specific devices can support individuals with different levels of assistance.  Their knowledge of universal trail design and ABA/ADA guidelines has helped me re-envision our trail building requirements to create a more inclusive hiking experience.  As users and educators, giving information is the gateway to freedom- freedom of choice and independence.  Which each one of us deserve.”
